Newsom Promises Legal Challenge
Governor Gavin Newsom announced Sunday that 300 California National Guard members are being deployed to Oregon under President Trump’s orders. He condemned the move as a federal overreach and stated that California will take legal action to block the deployment. Newsom said the administration is using California troops to bypass a court ruling that prevented Oregon’s Guard from being activated.
Judge Blocks Oregon Deployment
The announcement comes after U.S. District Judge Karin Immergut issued a temporary restraining order halting 200 Oregon Guard members from being sent to Portland. The injunction, in effect until at least October 18, cited potential constitutional violations regarding the use of military personnel for domestic policing.
Troop Arrivals Reported, Federal Confirmation Pending
Officials in Oregon confirmed that more than 100 California Guard troops landed late Saturday, with additional forces expected. The Pentagon has not publicly acknowledged the deployment, and state leaders said they had not received formal notice. The development has intensified tensions between state governments and the Trump administration over presidential authority to mobilize National Guard units across state lines.
