NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said the security deal for Ukraine will include two layers: strengthening Ukraine’s military and securing commitments from the US and Europe to deter Russian aggression. He visited Kyiv and reaffirmed NATO’s “unwavering” and growing support. After meeting Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Rutte confirmed NATO plans funding to maintain a steady supply of US weapons to Ukraine. Rutte added that Donald Trump assured leaders the US will participate in providing Ukraine with security guarantees.

Zelenskyy Demands Assurances Against Future Russian Attacks

Rutte said Ukraine, the US, and Europe are coordinating to ensure Vladimir Putin never attempts another invasion. Discussions about deploying foreign troops remain ongoing, but leaders consider it premature to define contributions. Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine needs guarantees for future generations to ensure Russia cannot launch new assaults. He emphasized the necessity of military, intelligence, naval, and aerial support from allies to strengthen deterrence.

    Diplomatic Stalemate Over Zelenskyy-Putin Meeting

Trump met Putin in Alaska and then Zelenskyy with European leaders in Washington, proposing a summit between Ukraine and Russia. Zelenskyy repeatedly agreed to meet Putin, but Moscow consistently rejected the idea. Sergey Lavrov stated no summit is planned, saying Putin will only meet once a clear agenda exists. Zelenskyy accused Moscow of blocking negotiations, declaring that Ukraine stands ready for talks while Russia avoids diplomacy. He urged stronger sanctions from partners to pressure Russia into serious discussions and prevent further stalling.
